...Suggestions!

I'd like to know what kind of art you'd might like to see from me -- fanart, original characters (yours, mine or others), backgrounds, still life, different styles, concepts, different media, etc. etc. Pretty much anything, so go crazy.

That said, let me clarify the term "suggestions": Suggestions I receive (assuming that I actually receive any :']) may or not be used. I may make use of one idea and combine it with one or more other suggested ideas. Or I might even use a suggested idea to come up with some other idea entirely.

In other words, I am not taking requests.

Thank you!

-------------------------------------

I've been quite lazy with comments lately, and for that, I apologize. I have been looking through my messages, though!

Also, if anyone is interested, here is my art blog, still in development.

That play on words was unintentional, by the way. (I mean...look how clever I am! XD)

It's been about a month and a half since I became active again here, so I figure some sort of explanation or debriefing or whatever you want to call it is in order. This is primarily for my own self-indulgence, because I like writing explanatory pieces. Whee.

I'm here again because I think this is a great place to browse through incredible pieces of art made by artists who are not making zillions of dollars or have their work exhibited an all the major art museums the world over (yet). dA reminds me that artists are still people. Just people. Ordinary people who have lives and families and friends and jobs. (Fame is a bit dehumanizing, I think.) Looking at the art here makes me think more deeply about my expectations and goals for my own artwork, and I hope that this will move me in a direction for growth and improvement.

...At least, that's what I tell myself. It's a nice notion, after all. To be totally honest, there are several other reasons why I'm back here, most of which are much more superficial:

1. Someone recently asked me if I had some sort of collection or gallery of my digital art. I thought about all the work I had posted here, felt embarrassed, and said, "No, not really." I'm not ashamed of liking anime and manga...in fact, it's my favorite style for storytelling. I just feel like this gallery of only anime/manga style art isn't representative of my whole artistic identity. I like a whole variety of styles, from pop art to abstract expressionism to photorealism.

I also don't really want to associated with the extreme anime/manga fanbase. Yes, I still have fangirly moments, but I like to think I grew out of that phase.

2. I want to become more articulate when I talk about art. I've taken a few art classes now, but in each one I found myself either (a)saying nothing ever or (b)babbling like an uneducated fool on critique days. So, basically, I'm here to practice. The good news is that I really spend time looking at each piece that pops up on my watch list. The bad news is that it takes me a very long time to think of a sincere, specific comment for each one. So sorry if it takes me weeks to comment on your pictures. T_T And if you submit several deviations at once, I might not comment on every single one.

3. I actually prefer doing traditional art, but the expense of supplies adds up over time ;_; I just recently discovered that I enjoy painting, and the cost of high quality acrylic paint is just...ugh. And everything takes up so much space! I desperately need to reorganize my room before creating more physical, tangible art. In the meantime, I'm working on my digital portfolio.

So tldr; I'm here. Whether this will be long-term or not, I'm not sure. I said that I wanted to expand my digital gallery with works other than anime/manga, but the more time I spend on dA, the more I feel like drawing fanart or making one page comics. It's kind of bizarre XD I might end up moving my art somewhere else, like my own artblog. But then I might not. Who knows? ^^

A lot changes in a few years. I mean, look at this website. Where on earth did all these new features come from? And what's with the llamas and using devicons as emoticons? o_O

Do you ever look through your old art and regret that you ever considered yourself an artist? :'D

Stolen from :iconcelestial-selene:

FIRST 10 PEOPLE TO REPLY TO THIS JOURNAL GETS FEATURED ON HERE (a.k.a. I'll dive into your gallery and choose three of your best deviations (in my opinion) and post them up here)
You have to put this in your journal if you choose to be one of the 10!

Comments: ROYGBIV, picking 3 of Kayt-chan's pictures does NOT do her gallery justice. She has so much stuff ranging from drawings to pixel dolls to one page comics to icons.... it's all very wonderful :) I like how she uses all sorts of media, and her sense of humor definitely shows in many of her art pieces.

2. :icontakkun0486:

www.deviantart.com/deviation/4… www.deviantart.com/deviation/4… www.deviantart.com/deviation/4…

Comments: I don't look into vector art as much as I should, but I am really impressed with the pieces that Takkun0486 does! Very interesting compositions, and I like the futuristic theme in a couple of his works. There are also a couple of photographs in his gallery that are wonderfully composed :)

3. :iconaiko-chan88:

Comments: I really love her lineart! The varying thickness of lines make her drawings interesting, and she's got very cute characters! Let's do a collab sometime, ne? ^^

4. :iconomgitsemily:

www.deviantart.com/deviation/3… www.deviantart.com/deviation/3… www.deviantart.com/deviation/4…

Comments: Her art is cute beyond words! She tastefully uses bright colors to give her gallery a very cheery look. The way she shades is very soft and delicate and demonstrates a good understanding on blending...Um, I'm just getting really wordy now, so go check out her gallery! ;)

5. :iconprincess-amy:

www.deviantart.com/deviation/1… www.deviantart.com/deviation/4… www.deviantart.com/deviation/3…

Comments: Yay, a photographer! (Photographers need more attention here on dA.) It's really hard to pick out the "best" photographs from a gallery, because a lot of the decision is based on personal preference of the subject matter...but anyway, I tried my best to select some pictures based on composition and other things that make photography an art (I'm only an amateur, so I didn't know exactly what I was looking for). So! With that said, check out the many photos in Princess-Amy's gallery!

6. :iconartic-shaman:

www.deviantart.com/deviation/4… www.deviantart.com/deviation/4… www.deviantart.com/deviation/4…

Comments: Artic-Shaman really has a varied gallery that deserves to be thoroughly looked at. There are references to art culture, and most, if not all, of the works in her gallery are conceptually rich. I appreciate even the photos of collages in her notebooks, because that demonstrates the important role of the arts in her life. Go ahead and take a look! :)

7. :iconrobotic-lollipop:

www.deviantart.com/deviation/3… www.deviantart.com/deviation/4… www.deviantart.com/deviation/4…

Comments: Robotic-Lollipop's pictures are so colorful! It may seem too chaotic to use so many colors at once, but I think it works especially well with her characters, who have very complex, original outfits (I love the socks, BTW ;)) She also pays close attention to the quality of coloring, with smooth blending and a consistent light source. Check out her gallery! It'll brighten your day ^_^

I was thinking of having some sort of writing contest for my manga, project Helix, during my hiatus, because it seems like people are getting restless. I've already gotten a comment demanding updates ;) Anyway, I'm not quite sure what I want to do yet. I don't want to have a short story contest; I've already made certain decisions about the plotline and if someone just happens to have the same idea, it might appear that I'm ripping them off....^^;; I'm thinking more along the lines of either an essay or poem, maybe both options....

Opinions anyone? ^_^
